Alsace or Elsass for a weekend February 27, 2007

hey…
the weekend that has just passed i was in Alsace…in Franch and Elsass in German:)
is a piece of land that was frenach and then german and french and german…and …now is franch, but the majority of people speak also german and also french.
we went by car …along the wine road…we were 4 people, each of us with different goals. a german that wanted to taste and buy a lot of wine, for his personal reserve, a finnish that was curios to see a piece of France and taste its wines, a frech that wanted to buy some books and taste french “tartes flambe” and “mille feuilles” and me…i just wanted to relax, do some sightseeing and study Elsass inhabitants:)
we left early in the morning, after a great breakfast of chease salami and baguette, and we have seen 3 or 4 small wine towns.
all along the road were vineyards, acres and acres of vineyards. we entered some kellers and tasted some wines…and so i learned that Alsace wines are mostly dry and mostly white, and they also make “eau de vie” a type of…palinca…with different flavours.
all the houses were in the old style of the region…nothing new! and nothing without history or culture in it. the houses were that type …in which you see the wood that sustains the house from the outside, and very colourfull…like a never ending Römer Square, but not rebiuld…original!
everything was taken care of…no old paint, no garbage, no new stuff, no kitch. all the details were set in their places…as we were in a town where the time stood by.
i loved hearing people speaking french around me…and when they heard our accents, they were delighted to speak german.
i tried some of their specific food…like a pot with 3 types of meat in it and potatoes…or baked potatoes with 2 types of cheese, sour cream and garlic souce…and of course the sweets…tarte with cheese and real hot chocolate…with real milk and a big piece of chocolate in it that mealted in…
it was peace and quiet and unfortunatly was also raining…
but people there were saying that in the season, from Easter to December…is full of people..and rich people actually, that come to taste and buy wine…so i guess i was lucky to go now, because the prices were ok..and we saw pretty many things…
i said we went there by car but i forgot to say what car…and 60 years old Manta Mercedes:) …which in total has rolled around 600 km in the entire weekend…and since we are talking about oldness…we slept in a 600 years old hostel…in Obernai, the most Alsacian small town ever (the French guy told us)..
Colmar was also nice…the biggest in Alsacia, but still small:))
happy to have you February 23, 2007

i am happy to have you…all of my friends…
there are friends with whom i shared food, thoughts, a dance, a working team, a work group, projects, feelings, accomplishments, beer, wine, cries, chocolate, ice cream, nights, weeks, days, a bath in the see, a sunrise, failures, clothes, smiles, hugs, memories, places, countries…with some of them i shared more, with some of them i shared less. with some of them i still keep sharing and i will probably share until the end of my life, with some of them i will probably share only words and interests since they are so far away…
but in moments of happiness or sadness they are always there:) and it is amaizing to see how many people answer at a call.
Gabiza is the new President of AIESEC International – the first Romanian ever and the first girl since 1998:)…she accomplished the dream of many Romanian AIESECers and also shows it is possible to accomplish your dream (in case you deared to forget this!)
Everybody is sending her greetings and congratulations…me also…and i also know most of these people…and is great to see how many we are…all over the world…and how the word goes on and on and we are all happy together…because of the same reason:)
Is a great feeling…and i think is not “apartenenta”(belongingness?:P)…is pride and happiness, the feeling of accomplishment, and we are all together in this because yes, personal growth is one of our values:)
it feels great:)
cheers,

interesting manifestation what can i say…
i was in Koln only for 6 hours…but it was enough to get the picture of the Carnival:)
people wearing costumes…i saw a guy wearing a costume of a scrumbled egg and a woman was a brocolli:)))…many nurses, and men in skirts,
Germans laughing and enjoing themselves…and surprise …even kissing on the streets…
well..it was just like any other carnival, but with German specific songs with simple words of course, so you could enjoy them only when you are drunk:) otherwise they seem to be created for kindergarden kids.
Koln is nice, but i guess is like almost any other city in Germany…REBUILT, this meaning it starts at the train station and ends up at the church, (which in Koln are at 100 m distance…so an exception..) with nothing special to see but the cathedral which it looked very impressive.
i managed to spend only 30 euros…which is a record:)…on beers, transportation and a funny hat of course:). i had a great time with all the friends from Frankfurt and afterwords with some Romanians who are having a traineeship in Bonn…whom i never saw before, just talked on the phone and on e-mail…nice transilvanian people…i could feel that they feel i am an Oltanian:)
nice discussions and exchanges of opinions…and also full of learning points for me…because i dont know how come, after so many working/studying/living experiences with all sorts of people i still have a big dose of naivity…and of course sometimes i remember about it because of the people that make me have “aha moments”
)…but i think i dont want to lose it after all…i think it is useful even when i shouldnt have it…because i always wake up on time…and people dont manage to take advantage of me (of my time, my brain, work, resources etc.)
well…that was the Koln Carnival…i am still waiting for the photos from the guys who had a camera…but as always the guys who own a camera, are selfish and forget about the others…

i was not writing anything for such a long time, because i didn’t feel like writing…
i went through a period of sadness…of around 1 week…now is finished but who know when it will come again…i found some solutions to keep it away…and the most effective is to travel…is also the most expensive…but is better to travel then to eat chocolate and get fat:)
i remember when Danut went to Turkey…for 1 year…he had a sad period of desilusion of around 2 weeks after the first 3 months of his traineeship…so i guess is something normal…
i was sad because i was feeling that something is missing…i don’t know who or what..but to forget about this emptiness the solution for me is traveling…going to a bar doesn’t go anymore…or at least not on loger term…
i started my conversational german classes…so i meet this great Bavarian girl once a week and we talk for 1,5 hours only in German…she is a great girl…but again, like many young people in Germany…totally disoriented in matters of her career…
and then also once a week we go to a bar…to a farewell party…it seems that i am one of the newest trainees around here so, the friends that i just made are starting to go home…one by one, 2 by 2…so by April they will be all gone…i guess it will be hard for me to find others and to have the patience to know them …so i predict that the last part of April and also May will be pretty empty and tastless…
on the other hand…in April i will go to Poland to a 5 days conference to be one of the trainers (CELDS). i am really enthusiastic about this. i applied to 3 conferences and i was accepted to one…that is a good percentage:)
so…now…what is there to be seen in Poland?

honestly…i didn’t even notice it in this town…
i was used from back home with seeing many people with flowers in their hands…and bars having special parties organised for celebrating this day…special shows on TV like kissing competitions and romantic declarations….well i haven’t seen anything of that here…
me and some trainees spent Valentine’s in a bar…in the center of the town…with candles on the tables, and big curtains and a lot of glass.
the guys really surprised us, cause they brought us chocolate candies without any particular reason…
so we drank something and spent 2 nice hours in a nice bar…K&B on Stift strasse…because we wanted to try a new bar…and here they even served Sushi for 6 euros…
i also talked with some German guys…no presents for Valentine’s for their girlfriends…i guess they are not a very romantic culture…beer is better then the sweetness of feelings…
and…back on air February 7, 2007

hey…
my knee is better…but the doctors say i should have a surgery if i want a new knie again…
my foot will be ok, and no one will ever notice that i had a problem with the knee, but still if i want it as new as it used to be i should have a surgery…but other doctors say i shouldnät have a surgery…so…they talk and advise…but i am in the middle and i think is better with no surgery…just plenty of sports…which i should start doing quite soon…
Italy was great…+17 degrees C …green palm trees and green gras…shopping, walking, cooking, making love…nice…and then when i came back…in Hahn airport…snowing, freezing, moody people swearing…well…for a moment i felt like i needed reintegration:)
but now i am ok…yesterday i was in Darmstadt…nice city…small, old, but nice…and had a drink with the old EB that is ending their term…and congratulated the new EB…i guess Germans after a drink or two, are friendly as any other culture:))…you just have to be patient for them to drink something…and then they warm up…but the weather is nashpa as always:(
i donät know which country is going to be the next one to visit…but i think Poland is almost scheduled for Easter:) due to my good friend Marta that got a new job as HR consultant…and rented a bigger apartment:))
for now i am ok…missing the palm trees, but ok…
cheers,
