to be or not to be in Switzerland March 18, 2008

this is my present question…

Since i wrote last time, it’s been really long…since then, i moved in a new flat (a real adventure…2 trips with the smart of a friend:)) and i am living alone now…really cool after all…i live 30 meters away from the Red district…the place where the…sex life of this city happens…i guess…the only place:)) people here are…workaholic. all they do is: droll for a nice job in a bank, stay a while, and than in spring take the bonus and go for a better job…most probably, in another bank…

Anyways…about me…i can’t extend the contract where i work now..so i was looking for a job for a while, but all the offers i got were assistant, administrative assistant, project assistant…well…and it seems the reason is that i am coming from the Eastern Europe. so these recruitment experts around here don’t care about my academic background or work experience, they just offer me the lowest jobs in the trophic chain ever…and with contracts that would tie me up for like …2 years. These guys have a lot of nerve…they really don’t realize that we, the Easter Europeans, the slaves of Europe, can CHOOSE where to be slaves…i can get a job wherever in EU…why would i be so mad to want to stay in Switzerland when they don’t want me and offer me to “give the badges to the new employees, and make the introduction round in the company with them”. This sounds nice…but not for 9h per day!!! For Chris’ sake, i have a bachelor, now i am working on a master thesis, …i know better than wearing a nice skirt and heels, smiling and giving badges to the newbies!

Well…i feel better now…

Ok…to get a constructive conclusion out of this: the ones that want a job in Switzerland, be aware that you are just a second hand CV for the unexperienced recruiters around here…i mean, i asked him more questions than he asked me…he was making me a job offer and he was asking me if i am familiar with MS Office…the jerk didn’t even read that i have a bachelor in computer science!

It seems Switzerland is not the country for my dream life, so the plan is, if i don’t (by a miracle) get a nice challenging job that i would enjoy doing, i will just go to Italy for a 3 months break, write the book i am so anxious about writing, and sun bath in the beautiful Genova, with my darling beside me…and then we will decide together, in September, where to go…any ideas?:)

I am glad you are seeing some truth about Switzerland, through small facts but nevertheless, you see what a country of idiots it is. Your incident was not just a case, the people are amazingly dumb, on an everyday basis.

Go to Italy, it is still a real true European country, with its non-fear of the truth. And then the style, the men, the sceneries; yes go to Italy!

actually I have been living in several European countries for a while…Belgium, Italy, and Germany. Italy is nice to live in if you are on holiday otherwise is pretty hard to find a job in my area of expertise. Now I am back to Romania…for almost 2 years now. It has many negative sides but is the country where I was born and the loved ones are here and that’s what matters most. plus working in the online industry I don’t have to deal with the bureaucracy and corruption that annoys everyone living here. I read some pieces of posts from your blog and my advice for you is to either move to a big town like Bern, Zurich or Geneva or move to another country if you hate it so much. The brain and soul damage the surroundings do to you are not worth the few advantages of living in CH (my 2 cents…)
